“I support clients who elect to pursue treatment with Iboga, Ibogaine or Ayahuasca achieve better outcomes when they return from these treatment experiences.” ~Deanna Feeley
Many individuals struggling with addiction make the personal choice to explore medical detoxification and/or treatment with plant-based medicines like Iboga root, Ibogaine, Ayahuasca or other psychoactive substance. These agents are powerful hallucinogens that alter consciousness with the intent of helping individuals gain insight with respect to their substance use, past Trauma and/or the path of Recovery before them. These agents have their effect by modulating the serotonin system of the brain, and may rarely have significant toxic side effects.
I have extensive experience with personal transformation through work with ayahuasca, Iboga and other plant-based medicines that are an integral part of Shamanic practice among several indigenous cultures. I have studied extensively with Peruvian Shamans and also traveled to Gabon, Africa and worked with the Bwiti ancestors of the Iboga tradition.
I work with individuals who have chosen to embark on this path of personal exploration in a variety of ways;
- Pre- and post- experience integration: These plant-based substances open individuals to new awareness and insight. I have experience counseling individuals who have just completed an Iboga, Ibogaine or Ayahuasca journey. Often, the integration process is best supported with regular counseling for a period of months after such powerful and introspective experiences.
- Sober Companionship: As appropriate, I will escort patients to and from treatment centers that utilize these plant-based medicines as part of a comprehensive and ongoing treatment plan.
- Post-treatment care coordination and Recovery Coaching: Often clients and their families over-rely on a single modality or intervention to bring about the transformations required to achieve sustained Recovery. This includes plant-based treatment interventions. Relapse related deaths are not uncommon among patients with heroin or opioid addiction after any form of detoxification, including plant-based therapies. I work collaboratively with the treatment team, my clients, and their families to develop individualized post-treatment care plans that support client accountability, safety, and realistic goals after treatment.
